This channel is primarily a falconry channel to teach about the ancient sport of falconry. But it also contains videos about other wildlife, biology, paleontology, archology and anthropology. Additionally I sometimes share my other hobbies on here like fire dancing, astrophotography, flint knapping, motorcycles, etc.
Prairie falcons vs Saker falcons
#falconry
This falconry video compares two iconic falcon species. The saker falcon and the prairie falcon. These two falcons seem similar at first glance, but are very different. Saker falcons have been used in falconry for thousands of years. While prairie falcons have only been trained for less than 100 years. Both falcon species have unique abilities and unique limitations. This video will go into depth comparing the two species.

Falconry: Looking for Goshawk nests #falconry
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.14 дней назад
In this falconry video I teach the basics about looking for goshawk nests. This format is a little different, as I actually take you along in the forest instead of just talking about it at home. I am still recovering from heart surgery and had help and people keeping an eye on the state of my health. It was good to get out and explore and see all of nature and how the eco systems are connected....

Falconry: Kestrels vs Red tailed hawk
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.28 дней назад
In this falconry video I compare kestrels to red tailed hawks. Red tailed hawks are large powerful soaring hawks, and American kestrels are tiny falcons. This video compares the two species and their use in modern falconry. In the early days of American falconry laws, apprentice falconers were only allowed to fly kestrels or red tails. Now most states allow for more choices for a first bird. Th...

Hawk : WTF IS THAT.??!!
Good information cheers, good to see you looking well too.
I been want one. just not as much as the gyr or saker hybrid.
I've seen photos of passage tiercels Sakers that I would have bet money were Prairie Falcons. Surprising they're not more closely related.
Among birds of prey (order Falconiformes), falconids, caracaras, and new world vultures originated exclusively from the New World while accipitrids, ospreys, old world vultures, eagles, and secretarybirds all originated exclusively from the Old World, the seriemas which are now found only in South America are considered the oldest birds of prey alive today.
I’ve got a 54 day old tiercel saker right now, he’s about 770 grams. Looking forward to getting him going.
When is the best time to take a sharp shin hawk from the nest
The red-tailed hawk peed!
Ben excelled post again 👌
Precioso!
I had a Saker on the glove this weekend. My second raptor ever held! My sponsor owns and operates an Eyries here in rural, MO.
❤🎉
So glad to see you in shape! Saker falcons are awesome
Imagine many preachers using this myth in their preaching.
Sakers are so cool
The only drawback to these videos on the different types of birds is that it makes me want everything. I want all the birds!
Yeah same here!
In Uzbakistan we have also red-napes shaheen, which is an amazing bird to fly.
In Uzbakistan there are gry sized sakers. They are used to hunt in a mixture of peregrine and saker way. So they fly above hundreds of feet and dive into the prey. If they miss, they tale chase till the prey gives up. Sometimes preys try to hide to the back of the falconer when they cannot escape , which is funny and shows how incredible sakers are. Also they excel at quick turns when chasing. They are also used to hunt rabbits in Khazakhistan .
So interesting; Ben. Thank you for your knowledge! I am new to Falconry, and really enjoy learning about the differences in birds. And it is also great to see you looking so wonderful! :)
I've seen bald eagles singularly and in small groups take ducks by wearing them out. The hapless duck has to be in the middle of some big water. When the eagle dives after the duck, the duck dives under water to avoid the hit. After 15 or more minutes of forcing the duck under like this, the duck becomes exhausted and gets taken in a shallow dive.
This is fantastic. Thank you, so interesting for those of us with a passion for these beauties. What videos would we like? I'd love to hear stories about your adventures and see your birds and your countryside
il est admirable ce grand hibou❤
Hawk: "Hawk? More like hawt!"

Prime example of why the smarter you get the sadder it gets lmao
THANKS BEN....... for another great vid.....Looking forward to the next one.... Glad to see you recovering good.... LOVE YOU BRO...
GREAT ADVICE and a lot of fun, too..I LOVE ALL YOUR FALCONRY VIDS BEN..THE BEST...I hope all is well with you these days Bro...... I had a Kestrel in my early falconry days, in the early 70's..... no telmetry in that time, of course, no cell phones, no computers, REALLY "Old School" times... ( I am 64)........Telemetry IS a good thing to have....I am sure I would have used it back then , as I did loose a couple birds out flying.....I got 'em back, the next day or 2 later, but a NIGHTMARE ...for me... so, telemetry is a "falconer's best friend"...............Now I live in France, and we do have the big kestrels here right out my front door.....I live in south France, rural farmlands, hills, PERFECT place for falconry, and NO FALCONERS anywhere...(strange mystery to me). I see the kestrels all the time, and ocasionally making dive bombing runs on flocks of perched pigeons sometimes..The pigeons nest in the old 11th C castle walls next door to me....... I think they do it for fun, number 1. and, also, just to scare the pigeons, "testing" them, to see if any are not able to really fly , like, any young ones not quite ready yet, jumping out from a nest too soon..... , or injured older adults, who may be impaired as the flock panics and scatters explosively when the kestrel dives in....... They also chase swallows or swifts here too.... high speed mid air pursuits that are MIND BOGGLING to see..I have never seen a wild one make a kill yet........ but they DO try...SO FUN TO SEE...I would LOVE to try to fly one here..And yes, the size difference between the American and European is SIGNIFICANT...... These Euro birds are REALLY LIKE LITTLE "FALCONS"...... SO COOL.....In the USA ..... I flew kestrels only at lizards and grasshoppers, etc..COOL , and FUN...I just never tried to go after any birds..( I missed out on a great opportunity)... but I never flew them very long, I just flew BIG female RT hawks mostly...Jackrabbits, cottontails, and ground squirrels..... were my 3 daily things I flew my birds at.... ........ But here , I think I can go after birds, like numerous sparrows and starlings , etc, no problem. with these little "FALCONS".......
essentially half way in between a Goshawk and a Eurasian sparrow hawk in size and ecology
Only 50,000?? He deserves more
XD That moment when you look so scary you scare yourself!
Great to see you in shape again!
Great video Ben, personally I like this style 👍🏼
❤❤❤
Love this video style. More please!
I’m in Mississippi, looking forward to seeing first Coopers this summer, usually July? That’s when I’ve seen red birds get zapped in the past no matter the thickness of cover. Amazing to see.
So a guy goes through all the shit and finally becomes a master and then he says, "Screw everyone else, I'm busy." Nice system. Maybe if you wanna keep your license as a master, you're required to pay it back.
Ben, an honest question, these two "find the nest" videos will enable unqualified and unlicensed individuals find nests and potentially take birds that they shouldn't. Is having this online a good idea?
Thats where horikoshi got idea for hawks😂😂😂
Leave Tobias alone, bro!
